Per-Service Core Second Trumpet
Auditions will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the offices of Portland Opera:
The Hampton Opera Center
211 SE Caruthers, Portland, OR 97214
Core musicians in Portland Opera’s orchestra are considered first for positions as orchestration dictates. All Core musicians will be offered contracts before such contracts are offered to Expanded Core musicians.
The Portland Opera Orchestra is a per service, part-time orchestra represented by AFM Local 99. In a typical season there are 4 productions; in recent seasons this has broken down as 3 operas and 1 concert. The minimum number of services offered per season is 30; however, some operas use smaller orchestras, so many players will not play 30 services a season.
In the 2023-24 season, the Second Trumpet position was offered 13 services of which 4 were performances with wages totaling approximately $3,000. Please note that Portland Opera does not provide housing or a per diem payment for orchestra members.
