Press Release: Portland Opera Offers Free, Family-Friendly Events This Summer

This summer, Portland Opera will host numerous free events as part of the 2018 opera season. From opera in the vineyard, to a live simulcast of Rossini’s Cinderella story, La Cenerentola, opera-lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy these fun, summer events.

Cinderella Celebration, Sing-a-Long, and Ice Cream Social
July 18, 2018, 12pm; Director Park (815 SW Park Ave, Portland)
Portland Opera will present a free Cinderella celebration on July 18! This event will feature performances from the opera by cast members and a sing-a-long of favorite Cinderella tunes from musical versions of the fairytale. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character, and all are invited to enjoy complimentary ice cream from the Umpqua Bank Ice Cream cart.

Live Outdoor Simulcast of La Cenerentola
July 25, 2018, 7:30PM; SW Main Street                                                               The classic Cinderella story comes to life in Rossini’s bel canto romance, La Cenerentola. Audiences are invited to enjoy a live broadcast of the familiar tale, outside on SW Main Street as it happens in the Newmark Theatre at 7:30PM.

Order a song from the “menu,” grab a glass of wine or cup of coffee, and enjoy operatic favorites and the summer sunshine. Portland Opera’s revamped popcorn truck travels all over Portland, making stops at farmers markets, vineyards, street fairs, and festivals. All performances are free of charge and open to the public. Resident Artist Series: Thomas Cilluffo in Recital
August, 1, 2018, 7:00PM; Whitsell Auditorium, 1219 SW Park Avenue, Portland

Portland Opera hosts a special community recital featuring the work of tenor Thomas Cilluffo, in his first year as a resident artist with the company. The performance features Chorus Master & Assistant Conductor Nicholas Fox on piano.
