Portland Opera seeks a Cutter/Draper

Portland Opera is seeking qualified candidates for the costume shop position of Cutter/Draper, a seasonal non-exempt position with benefits.  The Cutter/Draper reports directly to the Costume Shop Manager.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

• assisting Costume Shop Manager with work flow in the shop
• patterning, cutting, and constructing costumes
• assisting with measuring and fitting the Cast
• measuring rental costumes to determine appropriate cast assignments
• pre-altering and refurbishing costumes prior to fittings
• completing notes from all fittings and dress rehearsals
• researching any period styles and techniques necessary to complete each costume
• pulling costumes from stock
• repairing wardrobe as needed during run of show
• confirming inventory and packing of costumes for shipment

Qualified candidates should have 5 or more years of professional costume construction experience (opera preferred but not required), ability to manage multiple projects, proficient knowledge of various costume construction skills, including sewing, cutting, patternmaking, tailoring, working knowledge of fabric types and uses, working knowledge of costume history, and proficiency in the operation of all costume shop equipment.  Work will begin early June 2013.    Please send cover letter and resume by May 17 to productionjobs@portlandopera.org.  No phone calls, please.  Complete job description available upon request.  Portland Opera is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and an Equal Opportunity Employer.
