AUDITION NOTICE: DIE FLEDERMAUS

 

AUDITIONS FOR PORTLAND OPERA’S PRODUCTION of
DIE FLEDERMAUS

Auditions will be held on August 11, 2014
The Hampton Opera Center

ROLES TO BE CAST:

         Frosch, the Jailer  (speaking role – no singing is required)

TO SCHEDULE AN AUDITION:

Auditions are by appointment only.  Please send your resume and headshot to music@portlandopera.org.  You will be notified by July 31 if you have been granted an audition.

REQUIREMENTS

Please prepare a comic monologue of no more than three minutes in length.  If possible, please include physical comedy in your audition.  If you have any special skills such as juggling, gymnastics, or other abilities, please be prepared to demonstrate them.

The audition will also include reading from the script, which will be provided in advance of the audition.

REHEARSAL and PERFORMANCE INFORMATION

Rehearsals begin October 13, 2014

Performances are November 7, 9, 13, 15, 2014

Please note:  AGMA contracts will be issued for this engagement.  Actors’ Equity Members are encouraged to apply as there is reciprocity between AGMA and equity.  For more details, please contact AGMA@Musicalartists.org.  Portland Opera is considering local Portland actors only at this time.

Portland Opera is using a YAP Tracker application for all submissions. You do not need to be a paying subscriber to YAP Tracker to use the application form, although you will need an account. Guest accounts are available; please see YAP Tracker’s Website for details at www.yaptracker.com.  Paper applications by mail will not be accepted.
 

Application Procedure

(Please provide the following):

  • Completed YAP Tracker Application, including the following:

    • Detailed résumé 

·       Headshot

·       4 Operatic Arias: one each in Italian, French, English, and one other language.  Musical Theatre will not be accepted.

·       Non-refundable application fee of $30 paid by credit card through the YAP Tracker website

·       City and/or date preference

Audition Requirements

  • As this program is designed to bridge the gap between an artist’s education and professional career, ideal candidates have completed their postgraduate education and may have had some professional experience. Most applicants are between 24 to 32 years of age.

Application Deadline

  • Applications must be submitted to YAP Tracker by October 6, 2014


Audition Notification

  • Those chosen to audition will be notified by October 17, 2014

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

SUBSTITUTE SECTION VIOLIN AND VIOLA

Auditions will be held on September 20, 2014

Supernumerary Application

Portland Opera seeks non-singing performers (supernumeraries or supers) for future productions. Supers perform a variety of roles, from servants to soldiers, and get to experience opera up close and personal from the Keller Auditorium stage. This exciting opportunity allows you to become part of the production on an intimate level.  This is a volunteer position with free parking and two passes to the dress rehearsal provided.
